How to make good use of scrap wood

This past weekend I started a new project (which I am going to post video on shortly) and ended up with some decent sized scraps of black walnut. At the same time, my wife found a picture of a cool trestle table in a furniture catalog, and asked if I could make a mini version of it to put on our real dining room table to hold candles, etc. So the scrap I found seemed like the perfect solution. So here's what I came up with. I just made through wedged tenons in both legs, and made the wedges out of maple to contrast the dark walnut. The can of danish oil is in the picture just to give a sense of scale (and happens to be what I used to finish the piece). My wife was really happy with the results, and I was able to make good use out of some cutoffs that would be tough to incorporate into a larger project.
