How Bois got his groove back...

Sometimes, despite your best intentions you just can't always find time to get into the shop. I hear it all the time from fellow woodworkers, but I was sure I was immune to this terrible condition. Well it finally happened to me - for about the last nine months. But I was not discouraged. I believe that in many ways woodworking is just like riding a bike - you hop back on and it all comes back. But when it comes to more refined techniques and skills, these are things you need to hone on a regular basis to stay in shape.

So with a big project looming in the future, I was a bit hesitant to just jump right back on the saddle. I decided to design something that would help me hone those skills again with a lower risk factor, while also resulting in something I could be proud of and share. You know, something to help me get my groove back. So this next episode is what I call my "groove" project. And as I'm finding out, this will take on a double meaning as you get into a few episodes. If nothing else, I hope I can inspire some folks who have been arm-chair quarterbacking to get back in the game. Or back it the saddle. Or whatever metaphor works best for you. Enjoy!

I've come across your blog via Unplugged Shop. I'm quite inexperienced and always on the lookout for well produced information to help me gain as much theoretical knowledge as I can. I reckon that your first episode video on this project is one of the best I've seen produced.Your commentary is succinct and your camera work allows me to see and follow your work very well. I look forward to the other episodes.
Thank you, Brian.

Brian, thanks so much for the comments. I have spent some of my down-time upgrading my video equipment, and starting with the next episode - my audio equipment as well. My goal is to up the production quality a bit more, so your feedback is very validating for me!

Good to see you back in the shop and pod casting. I used your finishing technique on the natural edge table on some side tables I built. First time using a pour filler, so I kept reviewing your video. I was pleased with how the tops finished out, good depth highlighting the wood grain, nice shine. Thanks to you, for sharing your efforts. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Kevin, glad to hear the technique worked well for you. That's one of those finish steps that can seem tedious and something you could maybe skip over, but really makes the difference in the finished product.
