Well it's been a long layoff for me from blogging, but not because I've been idle in the shop. On the contrary, I've been so busy trying to get the shop expansion wrapped up, I've been logging 18-20 hour weekends leaving little time to post. Just yesterday, I wrapped up the finishing touches (the poly is barely dry on my assembly table) so I was eager to shoot a quick shop tour to show everyone what I've been up to. Starting next weekend, I'm going to be building a cherry jewelry box for my niece, so I will be back to doing another project video series. I can't wait to get back to hardwood after several months of framing lumber, mdf, and sheet rock! Enjoy the video.

Rob - I built my assembly table a month or so ago and already LOVE it. Having a flat reference surface for assembling projects takes away two dimensions that I used to have to worry about. Enjoy yours!
Rob, glad your back in the workshop again. I am looking forward to the videos and projects your shop will create. I hope that my skill improves as well. great job on the shop!!!! I am still working out of a cramped garage....

What you guys never saw in any of the videos or pictures was how I used to do my finishing. I had an old firewood rack with a piece of plywood on top of it in a dim, cold part of the basement. I was tripping over cans of finish, negotiating with glue-ups to stay flat, and begging BLO to draw into the wood at 50 degrees. I'm sure that was a good learning experience or built character or something, but I sure won't miss those days!
Looks good, I'm pretty jealous of your jointer.
Bud, that's precisely why I have a lock on the door to the shop.
Dude, I just watched this. You have a nice little setup down there. If I could still walk, I would love to have had a place like that. It just has that workshop feel to it.

Thanks Sac. The one thing that's really missing is some good natural light - that's one of the things I love about your shop.
I know Im reviving a dead thread, but Rob, how big is your main shop space?
This is an old post! The main shop space (or where the bench, TS, router, miter saw, and drum sander live) is about 250 SF, while the newer dimensioning/finishing section is a bit smaller because I did full studded walls with insulation. So probably more like 200. I don't remember the exact dimensions but that should be a good ballpark.
Any chance you might have a Sketchup layout, lol.... my shop is a little bigger than your main area.... but it seems you have a very good layout, vs mine that I am tripping over my own feat, lol...
Sorry, no sketchup or layout diagram for the shop. I actually did it all with graph paper (I know, very high tech). You did however make me realize I need to shoot a new shop tour (man, my production quality used to really suck!)
Its actually not so bad, better than I can do, lol....
But yea, definitely do another tour.... this time bring a tape measure and plot it out to the degree of a structural engineer... :) lol
